At the recent Executive meeting in Colombo (Sri Lanka) the IDU Executive unanimously recommended the BJP, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as new members of the International Democrat Union. Read more.

Maldives - IDU Calls for Democracy Process

The Executive adopted a statement expressing concern at the crackdown on the opposition and calling for the release of all political prisoners. The statement supports plans for an all party dialogue process to pave the way for the restoration of democracy and the rule of law in the Maldives. Read more.

Bolivia - Statement from the IDU Executive

Bolivia - IDU Welcomes Referendum Result 

In a statement from the Executive the IDU congratulates the Bolivian people on the result of the recent constitutional referendum which blocked President Morales' attempt to extend his government's mandate. The statement calls it an 'important signal against the promotion of the “21st Century Socialist Movement." Read more.

Western Balkans – Statement from the IDU Executive

Western Balkans - More Co-ordination Needed in Fight Against Terrorism 

The IDU Executive in Colombo also adopted a statement calling on the countries of the Western Balkans to better co-operate in the fight against organized crime and terrorism. Read more.
