We are looking forward to welcome you in Malta!
The migration crisis with mass movements of people fleeing the war zones of the Middle East, illegal economic immigration, mainly coming from Africa, the increasing threat of cross-border terrorism as well as the movement of international organized crime, human and drug trafficking groups are the biggest challenges for European security today. Maintaining security and freedom for its citizens besides this reality is the utmost obligation for EU’s politicians and governments. This strongly requires a functioning protection of EU’s external borders as well as a controlled entrance and a thorough identification for those affected by war searching for asylum.
Controlling and managing European borders in the 21st century is a challenge, which can be solved only by strong cooperation of all member states. Coordinated and connected border management policies as well as interoperable systems are indispensable. How can the European Union use its instruments and agencies to establish a smart border which will protect its inhabitants from uncontrolled threat and maintain freedom?
