The International Democrat Union (IDU) and the Jarl Hjalmarson Foundation (JHF) have the honour to invite you to this year’s Freedom Forum in Miami, taking place on the 4th and 5th of May 2017.
The Freedom Forum wants to draw the attention at the fate of political prisoners and political persecution. Imprisoning political opponents is a common tool of authoritarian governments to oppress critical voices from opposition and civil society. The numbers of political detentions and prisoners are not always told, limiting thereby the understanding of deterioration of democracy in those countries.
La International Democrat Union (IDU) y la Fundación Jarl Hjalmarson (JHF) tienen el honor de invitarlos a participar en el foro de las libertades de IDU, que se realizará en Miami los días 4 y 5 de mayo de 2017.
Against the backdrop of the current protests against the Maduro regime, it is necessary to counteract the state’s repressions, thus defending freedom, democracy and the rule of law. The use of violence against protesters is to be utterly condemned.
The IDU regional organization UPLA has published a statement, which is available here:
The International Democrat Union (IDU) recognizes the decision of Partido Conservador (PC) not to accept the results of the general elections in Nicaragua, based on the many irregularities on election-day.
The IDU is deeply concerned about the circumstances and outcome of the Montenegrin elections that took place on 16 October; the worsening situation in Montenegro, in particular the lack of a free press and the alleged collusion of security forces and threats against opposition parties.
