Deputy Speaker Reinhold Bocklet studied law and political sciences in Munich, where he earned a degree and passed two state examinations. He went on to become a research assistant of the German Education Council, desk officer at the Bavarian State Center on Political Education of the Bavarian State Chancellery, then Lecturer at Munich University. In 1978 he was awarded the Special Science Prize of the Bavarian State Parliament.
From 1979 until 1993 he was Member of the European Parliament, from 1991 the General Rapporteur for the Reform of EC Agricultural Policies; in 1993 he became Chair of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Civil Liberties of the European Parliament.
From 1993 until 1998 he was Bavarian State Minister for Food, Agriculture, and Forestry, from 1998 until 2003 Bavarian State Minister for Federal and European Affairs at the State Chancellery.
From 1994 to 2003 he was Member of the Committee of the Regions of the European Union, lately serving as Chairman of the EPP Group and First Vice-President.
Since 1994 he is elected to the Bavarian Parliament and since October of 2008 its First Deputy Speaker.
Since 1984 Reinhold Bocklet is member of the board of the Christian Social Union of Bavaria (CSU). Since November 2004 he chairs the International Commission of the CSU.
He is a lawyer.
