IYDU Council Meeting Marrakesh
From April 27th to 30th, the IYDU Council met in Marrakesh, Morocco. Hosted by the youth wing of Morocco’s Istiqlal Party, over 50 young leaders from all over the world made their way to the North African country to elect a new IDYU Board to serve for the next two years.
The Council Meeting had a rich program, including a meeting with Mr. Samir Goudar, President of the Region of Marrakech-Safi at the Region Council; a lunch meeting with Mr. Nizar Baraka, Secretary-General of the Istiqlal Party and Minister of Equipment and Water; and a meeting at the Municipal Council with Mrs. Fatima-Zahra Mansouri, the Mayor of Marrakech and Minister of National Planning, Urban Planning, Housing and Urban Policy. These meetings deepened our understanding of Morocco, and we had the amazing opportunity to discuss the current challenges facing Morocco and the world. The days were topped off with a tour of Marrakech and cultural programming in the evening.
The Opening Ceremony on Saturday started with speeches from Mr. Enaam Mayara, President of the Councilors House of Morocco; Mr. Othmane Tarmounia, Chairman of Istiqlal Youth Organization; and our very own Chairman, Michael Dust. He revisited the highlights of his past two-year term, including the IYDU’s expanding activities around the world, with a greater focus on regions with the largest potential to grow our network, and the IYDU’s improved relations with the IDU. He expressed his gratitude to all the members of his team and to everyone, who has supported the IYDU.
The election of the new IYDU Board followed the ceremony. All candidates received a high level of support from the delegates, and we are proud to present the new team for the next two years: Chairman Michael Dust from Young Union (Germany) has been re-elected with Nick Francis from NDP (St. Vincent & the Grenadines) elected as his Deputy Chairman. Eva Dohalova from Young ÖVP (Austria) will serve as Secretary General and Sourabh Choudhary of BJP (India) as Treasurer. Ten members were elected as Vice Chairs: Rick Loughery from YRNF (United States), Lilit Beglaryan from YRPA (Armenia), Roberto Pellizzaro from FIG (Italy), Hikmat Karki from NDYO (Nepal), Nicola Richards from the Young Conservatives (United Kingdom), Maria Miala from KNL (Finland), Marwa El Ansari from the Istiqlal Youth (Morocco), Judita Emic from MHDZ (Croatia), Nana Asafo Adjei Ayeh from NPP (Ghana), and Frank Alley of the National Youth of the National Party (Honduras).
The objective for the new electoral term is to continue strengthening the IYDU’s global network, especially in regions of greatest potential, such as Africa. On top of that, we are committed to supporting regions currently struggling with socialist movements and the consequences of socialist policies, such as South America. Furthermore, it is crucial to offer unwavering support to the youth in the world where they need it the most. An example would be Taiwan, where the Chinese Communists are already knocking at their door. We, the younger generation, must also stand with each other on another existential issue of our time, climate change. These challenges cannot be simply resolved by national or regional efforts alone.
