The International Democracy Union (IDU) condemns in the strongest possible terms the brutal and indiscriminate terrorist attacks of Hamas committed across Israel on October 7, 2023.
The IDU calls on Hamas to immediately release all remaining hostages without any preconditions.
The IDU strongly emphasises Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas’ terror, in line with international law and international humanitarian law.
The IDU views the use of civilians as human shields and hospitals as command centres by Hamas as a deplorable atrocity and holds Hamas responsible for the loss of civilian life.
It is key to protect civilians, provide humanitarian assistance, and facilitate access to food, water, medical care, fuel, and shelter, ensuring that such assistance is not abused by terrorist organizations.
Hamas is a terrorist group destabilizing the region and threatening to pull the wider Middle East into conflict, financed and supported by the Iranian Mullah regime. It is thus imperative that all international partners work to fight Hamas, as well as other terrorist groups in the region, like the Iran-funded Hezbollah, in their destructive efforts. The IDU supports all initiatives fighting terrorist groups and violent extremism.
The IDU remains committed to reviving a political process based on the two-state solution and based on international law, welcoming diplomatic peace and security initiatives as well as the holding of an international peace conference in the near future.
