IDU mourns the death of IDU Vice Chairman

With deep regret IDU mourns the death of IDU Vice Chairman, UPLA Chairman and former President of El Salmador Armando Calderón Sol.

Armando Calderón Sol was elected UPLA Chairman at the UPLA General Assembly in August 2014. He was the President of El Salvador from 1994 to 1999, representing the Nationalist Republican Alliance (ARENA), an IDU member party since 1995.
Calderon Sol was a founding member of ARENA and mayor of El Salvador’s capital, San Salvador from 1988 to 1994…. After the end of El Salvador’s civil war in 1992, he helped implement the reconstruction effort with pro-market reform. His government oversaw reforms and privatisation of sectors such as telecoms, agriculture and manufacturing. He has maintained an active life in politics and served as the honorary president of ARENA.
IDU will preserve his believe in a free, democratic and fair society.
