Resolution tabled by the European Solidarity of Ukraine and the All-Ukrainian Union Batkivshchyna
The International Democrat Union (IDU) strongly condemns Russia’s unprovoked and premeditated invasion of Ukraine, which started on February 24, 2022, and considers this decision of the Russian leadership be an act of war of aggression and terror, and a
violation of the international law and the global rules-based order.
We are deeply shocked by the scale of destruction of civilian infrastructure, mass and indiscriminate killings of peaceful citizens, rapes and torture of civilians, war crimes, and atrocities committed in Ukraine by the Russian armed forces under the command of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. Such acts of genocide and blatant violations of the international law must not be tolerated and all responsible must be brought to international justice. We support establishing an international criminal
tribunal to bring Russian perpetrators of war crimes against Ukraine to justice.
The IDU supports Ukraine in its fight for freedom, democracy, independence, sovereignty, the right to freely choose its international alliances, and the territorial integrity within the internationally recognized borders. We strongly stand for the
principles that no country
can change the borders of another one by force and no country can impose its will on another one. Ukraine and its people alone shall decide
their future.
We commend the bravery and self-sacrifice of Ukrainian Armed Forces, volunteers, ordinary citizens, who have united their efforts to defend their country and their nation
from elimination by the revanchist neo-imperialist Putin regime in Russia.
The IDU welcomes the unprecedented unity and solidarity of the international democratic nations with Ukraine in these challenging times. Putin’s war of aggression against Ukraine is a crime against peace, security and stability of the world, our values, and our future. It is a human and humanitarian catastrophe, caused without provocation, driven by the desire for power and a contempt for democracy. It is an attack on freedom and democracy itself. It is an attack on Europe and the democratic world. It is an attack on all of us. As societies living in freedom and democracy, we
must oppose Putin and his criminal regime with all our strength.
To this end, the International Democrat Union:
- Demands the Russian Federation cease its military invasion against Ukraine, fully withdraw its forces and military equipment from the sovereign territory of Ukraine within the internationally recognized borders, as well as start negotiations with Ukraine on long and sustainable peace.
- Calls on the G7, the European Union, the NATO member states, and other nations to strengthen coordinated political, financial, economic, humanitarian, and military support for Ukraine with a view to increasing its resilience and potential to defend the country, to wipe out the aggressor from Ukraine’s sovereign territory.
- Is of the opinion that the sooner and the faster the military assistance, in due amounts and capacity, particularly the heavy weapons that are requested by the Ukrainian authorities, reach Ukrainian military fighting the Russian occupational forces, the faster the war of choice of Putin will be over.
- Calls on the G7 and the European Union to form the so called «List of Bucha» to list all those responsible for war crimes and atrocities in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine with a view to bringing them to justice.
- Calls for the establishment of a comprehensive and consolidated Marshall-like Plan 2022 for Ukraine aimed at post-war rebuilding of the country and assisting it to reach the high standards of joining the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization as the Ukrainian people so wish.
- Welcomes the decision of the European Council to grant Ukraine the European perspective and the status of the candidate country for EU membership, as well as calls on the EU institutions and Ukrainian authorities to take due efforts to implement all the necessary preconditions to launch pre-accession negotiations.
- Encourages the NATO member states to grant Ukraine the Membership Action Plan, which will pave the way to the full-fledged integration of Ukraine to the NATO – the best security guarantees.
- Calls on the G7, the European Union, and other nations to strengthen comprehensive political, financial, and economic pressure on the Russian Federation and the Putin’s regime, including the cessation of all trade with Russia in energy resources (oil, gas, coal, nuclear fuel). The sanctions pressure must be increased until there is a total withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, restoration of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, and a fundamental change of attitude in Russia towards its neighbours, international law, and order.
- Demands Russia de-block the Ukrainian seaports to allow for free sea export routes to be used for Ukrainian grain and agricultural products to reach the global market. It is the sole responsibility of the Russian Federation for the food crisis looming the world and averting the catastrophic consequences the world risks if Ukrainian ports remain blocked by Russian military forces.
- Calls on the international democratic community to establish the Anti-Putin International Coalition to work towards isolating, undermining, and removing the Putin regime, which has become one of the main threats to the security and stability of the European continent and the global order.
