The New Patriotic Party, the governing political party of Ghana, is doing everything possible to be the first political party to break the 8-year cycle of change of governance between it and its principal opponent, the National Democratic Congress. This vision or desire, as some people may call it, has been shared and engineered into the thinking and working of all the members of the party, from the national executive members to the polling stations’ members and grassroots.
H.E. President Nana Akufo-Addo has demonstrated his commitment to this achievable goal in his policies, programs, and projects. The President has launched many new programs, in areas which previous programs hitherto did not reach many people. His NPP government will go down in history as the government with the largest social programs that benefitted the poor and prepared them to take part in the development of the country. Some of these programs include: the mandatory free senior high school, the expansion of the free school feeding programs, the drastic expansion of rural electricity, the Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) and the many roads, schools, hospitals, and local government administrative buildings.
In several ways the party is evolving, updating, and preparing its structures, from the polling stations to the national levels for the huge electoral work ahead. There were internal elections held for the polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, constituency executives, external branch executives, and the national executives. During the internal elections, democracy was at its finest. Every party member who expressed the desire to contest an executive position was given fair and equal treatment. The will of the general members of the party was expressed and reflected in the new set of executives from the lowest to the highest positions.
At the Annual Delegates Conference held in Accra Sports Stadium on July 17th, the newly elected National Executives chosen are led by the National Chairman, Mr. Stephen Ayesu Ntim, the General Secretary, Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua, and their team of capable men and women.
It is hoped that the new National Executives Committee will set up the machinery and process for the delegates to elect the Presidential Candidate next year to lead the party to the December 2024 General Elections.
