The International Democrat Union is pleased to announce the accession of Israel’s Likud party as a new member party of IDU. The IDU Executive Board voted to accept Likud’s application at the recent IDU Executive meeting at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, USA.
Following Likud’s membership application, the IDU launched a fact-finding mission to Israel earlier this year led by IDU Deputy Chairman Hon. Tony Clement, MP (Canada). The delegation had the opportunity to meet senior party representatives to learn more about party structure and policy, as well as meeting a range of Likud’s partners, NGO representatives and journalists, who offered a comprehensive view of the party and the political situation in the region. Following the fact-finding mission, IDU Secretary General Christian Kattner recommended, on behalf of the delegation, that the IDU accept the accession of the Likud Party.
The Likud party is a political organization with a longstanding tradition, more than 40 years of experience in government and opposition and is committed to the core values of freedom and democracy on which the IDU was founded. As the global alliance of the centre right, the IDU is pleased to welcome Likud to our growing network of member parties around the world!
